I had the seasonal flu jab and the pneumonia jab a week after. The pneumojab gave me a left arm from hell for about 3 days and was sore for a total of 5-6 days.
From what I've learned the seasonal jab is just a combined vaccine of the 3 predominant strains - HN31 (swine flu), HN32 and influenza B. The HN31 vaccine is the same as last year's so I can't understand why anyone is being told to have two jabs. All they're getting is the same vaccine.
I'd like to get my hands on this flowchart so I could find out more. This is the first I've heard about it.

hi Paula,
i didn't have the swine flu jab last year as i hadn't been diagnosed.
i have had the seasonal one in November and i specifically asked my Nurse if this covered this year's swine flu and she said yes.
also asked my GP when i last saw him and he said this covers all.
puzzling isn't it.

Hi Paula I have had the seasonal flu jab for years. As a teacher I'm exposed to too many bugs and can't afford to get flu. When I went for the swine flu one last year - because I'm on mtx-my GP said I had to have 2 doses, several weeks apart because of my lowered immune system. I have also had seasonal and swine flu jabs this year and am very grateful too. My school was hit by swine flu in mid December. Children and staff went down like ninepins but I just had one day where I felt bad and then was better. Sue

We had a private nurse come into work to vaccinate all our employees. She told us that the swine flu jab was included in this year's seasonal flu jab.
No wonder we get confused with all the different information.

they should never give out advice--i know i was one !!!
with working with such a large number of people i would not hesitate to get the jab!!!
your GP should have advised as such--there i go giving advice!!!
i had no altrenative--in for review asked if i had the jab ( at that point i wasn't on MTX)--no--doc did it there and then!!
maybe you should have pneumonia jab as well having had the disease last year--please check don't get caught out

Hi Annemarie
Never had the flu jab before, but am going to have one next week, all the employees in the special school where I work have been offered it, so am going to take up the offer.
From the advice on here its well worth having.

Well, I phoned the GP's up and asked to make an appointment for round two. Put on hold and then the receptionist came back and said that she didn't know if they were going to have another flu jab clinic because they don't know if they will be having any more vaccine. I told her that there was somewhere in the surgery some put aside, with my nane on just for me. Put on hold again and then she came back and made me an appointment for early Feb. Phew.......looks like I got that just by the skin on my teeth!!!!
I've been thinking about me having to have the swine flu one before I can have the seasonal one. Does that mean that pregnant women who are said to be at risk, who obviously wouldn't of been at risk last year because they wouldn't of been pregnant had to have both? Haven't heard of that in the media.

In the paper yesterday was a small piece about a lady, in her 50s, who died of swine flu. It mentioned that she had RA. It also said that she had refused the vaccine because she didn't like it. This is so sad and my heart goes out to her family. But I think it is a warning to us all. Sue

After reading this , when i had an appointment the Thursday with my GP about ongoing issues , i asked whether it was advisable for me to have the flu injection and he said Yes , and gave me one there and then :). He had a pack of the drugs conveniently on his desk . No ill-effects yet .. not that i'd notice anyhow :) R :) "The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."

I'm getting a bit worried - Jim and Julian have both had proper wipe you out flu this weekend with raging temperatures and I haven't had my flu jab. Haven't had it because have had so many appointments for other things this year I just didn't want to ask. How stupid of me. If I don't come down with it in the next few days I am definitely going to ask if I can have it, especially now I'm on Humira. I could kick myself - DOH.
